japanese…

why is it they all dress so awesome. i have a japanese friend (at least i think shes japanese — im not sure how to ask something like that) anyways her style is so eclectic and wonderful. she is my inspiration for a lot. when im stuck for something to make i just think “what would ___ wear?”  and then in a burst i have a closet full of clothes for ______!

there are alway so many layers, that somehow always look amazing together. but i try and i look like a homeless clothes horse, donning her entire wardrobe on so as not to loose anything, multiple purses and all.

perhaps the main attraction is the idea of loose and comfortable. such a contrast to the plastic skintight clothing we see so often on the diva dolls round here.

my current thought is how can i tie my passion for these loose yet stylin clothes into the line i create. ack. drawn on characters are the only ones i can see fitting onto the simple designs. a big mismatched character would just overwhelm the basic-ness of the shirt… right?

Maybe i just dress myself this way? its so artsy…. and cute.

but baggy is not sexy. my husband will not be impressed.

i love the unsymetrical lines. adds to the uniqueness of the pieces. and the loosefit will hide all those ‘bits’ we all try so hard to cover. now that i think of it — i have very few north american clothing that actually hides those bits. ugh.

stay tuned for what comes of this inspiration.

no name, but new items

as you can see im still creating under the name ’sweet’ its going to be around until i can make this huge life altering decision. you know… this is a bigger decision than naming your child.

to distract myself from the decision (like usual) …

Did you know she is working on an online shop offering vintage clothing and one of a kind pieces?

We have a friends wedding coming up soon, in 10 days to be exact. Lastnight it dawned on me that we have never been to a summer wedding, and therefore our usual heavy black suits may not be appropriate — and definately too hot. Daddy just bought his first coloured dress shirt, so hes covered… but me and the princess…. hummm.

Bee has begged for a summer yellow dress since the snow melted. Out of sheer luck our friend Brenda gave us some yellow tulle she had lying around… add sparkly yellow fabric cotton and a bit of stretch satin, found at the bottom of my scrap bin …

from this... by meg, bee n' he.

… lots of coffee

and a rare case of a really clear, motivated mind… i create this little wonder

ballet dress by you.

i love spinning shots

the belt is seperate. its supposed to sit higher on her actual waist -- but the fashion diva advised me otherwise.

too much spinning -- almost fell in the ballet dress by you.

(ooh... she almost fell from spinning. yes my heart stop for a second... and i may have screamed something)

the back is crisscrossed to avoid sewing a zipper or buttons.

now we just need fancier shoes (note the runners)

after that i still had more time — and still more energy

… so i just kept sewing.

It amazes me that fashion designers can be motivated to make items for a season that hasn’t even arrived yet. i had the idea for this one in the winter — but lacked the ‘getup and go’ to actually make it. but then again i am also the kid who wants to open the Barbie and play with it the second i’ve purchased it. i need instant action. i am pushed by thought “i can wear this as soon as im done” …. or she can in this case.

a new name

i have come to realize the more i sit with nothing to do the more i fiddle with things, organize + clean. nothing is safe if its in my sight. which means … time to restructure this little clothing line for real. i have considered it for some time because i just didnt feel the name “sweet” explained my idea very well.

i want everyone to know its not just about the funny monster-like people that are sewn to tshirts, or drawn onto jars. those characters represent people, and all their unique difference. he worrld is a blend of all sorts of people, and everyone should be proud to be a unique part.

but they arent. there are still bullies out there — in schools, offices and everyday life. those people who make fun others whether its their clothing, hair or general choice making skills; calling people hillbillies, trailer trash, welfare bums… nerd, hippie or slut. they all count. they all hurt — how many times do those people actually get to know their victims before they throw a stereotype in their face?

look what we are teaching our children… calling strangers stupid + dumb.

what would happen if everyone was nice to eachother. kind to strangers. no name calling… not that everyone was suddenly friends — but respectful of other people’s choices. woah wouldnt that shake things up??!

-

and thats what i want to do. shake things up.

and this means a more exciting encouragin name

some ideas i had….

Stir it up

rockin rags

shake it up

Rock the City (rock the world)

Re-Rockin

change the world

random kindness

(now im babbling…)

-

… or anything YOU think may describe the characters and their purpose

please send me your thoughts or leave a comment.
